Portsmouth RFC are hosting a girls section open day on Sunday.

In a bid to start working towards creating a flourishing girls academy, the club will be putting on a series of taster days in the coming months for players aged between 4-18 at Rugby Camp.

Harlequins' Elle Bloor and several members of the Portsmouth Valkyries squad - the club's senior women's team - will be passing on tips at the first session which runs from 10am-noon this weekend.

The club are particularly looking to attract players from the ages of 11-18, so girls can continue to play under the Portsmouth RFC banner after leaving the minis section cut-off age of 11.

Portsmouth's junior girls section head coach, Matt Mitchell, said: 'The main thing is to get as many girls to the club to meet the Valkyries.

‘It’s a chance for the girls to see role models within Valkyries, and see other girls within the club.

‘The day is going to be around the fundamentals of rugby so passing the ball, kicking the ball, catching the ball and just having some fun and bonding.

‘It’s just to get girls to the club to see what’s available and show them that there are plenty of girls out there playing rugby and what a great family rugby is.'

Portsmouth RFC's girls section open day is open to all abilities from ages 4-18.
