Hampshire skipper admits dismal start cost dear
The visitors were bowled out for just 109 on the opening day of the County Championship division one clash at Old Trafford.
Lancashire then rattled up 456 in reply.
And despite losing much of the third day to rain, the home side had enough time to shoot Hampshire out for 253 on day four and complete victory by an innings and 94 runs.

‘We showed some glimpses of good cricket but we haven’t strung it together.
‘To get off to start like that made it incredibly hard.
‘It’s a disappointing result but there are signs we are playing good cricket and guys are in good form.’
Simon Kerrigan took five for 59 as Hampshire tumbled from 208 for five to 253 all out – and slumped to the foot of the table.

‘I’d liked to have been out there all day but it was a clever bit of bowling from Jimmy,’ added the Hampshire skipper.
‘He rolled his fingers down the ball and he’s done me there to be fair.
‘Kerrigan has always been a good bowler.
‘When there’s assistance out there for him, he finds it and he bowled really well.
‘But we hung in there until that last session.’
