Gosport must not repeat Ryde '˜shambles'

Ruffle, from Auckland, has consistently been Borough’s highest scorer but the rest of the batting line-up has been below par.

Borough slipped to a shock defeat against bottom-of-the-league Ryde and once again some of the batting was found wanting.

Vice-captain Harrop knows they must put things right against St Cross Symondians II at Privett Park.

‘It was a shambles on our part,’ said Harrop.

‘We turned up far too over confident and were then surprised when they were better than us on the day.

‘Ryde showed a lot more control of the ball and blunted our attack by batting sensibly.

‘We didn’t do that and ended up losing because of it.

‘Every year we seem to do this against teams we should be beating.

‘Last season we did exactly the same thing against Alton.

‘Hopefully it will give us the kick up the backside that we need.

‘It is a shame because we had been doing well and building up a head of steam.’

Borough name an unchanged side giving players a chance to redeem themselves.

Waterlooville host Lymington II at Rowlands Avenue.

It will be an important match for the home side.

On Saturday Ville won their rain-affected game at St Cross Symondians II.

They were forced off when they were 91 for nine chasing a target of 123 posted by the home side.

The visitors were then pleasantly surprised when the umpires declared them as winners after their target was reduced due to the rain.

Chairman Andy Reynolds was pleased to see the team get the right result in difficult circumstances.

He said: ‘Normally in these situations we tend to mess it up.

‘For once we came out the right side of the situation.

‘On paper we have a good side but we have not been consistent enough.

‘If we can improve it could see us climb higher and be a threat.’

In division two Hambledon go to bottom-of-the-league Bashley (Rydal) II.
