Clark Robertson has insisted his side have let the Pompey fans down after their bleak defeat to MK Dons.

However, the Blues skipper is adamant they can rectify their difficult situation, which leaves them 10th in League One.

Danny Cowley’s men fell to a disappointing 2-0 defeat against the Dons as his outfit made their league return to Fratton Park.

However, goals either side of half-time from Bradley Johnson and ex-Pompey target Jack Tucker sealed the shock victory for the strugglers.

The Blues’ performance was met with boos at both the half-time and full-time whistle, along with chants of ‘that was embarrassing’ and ‘you're not fit to wear the shirt’ which rung around PO4.

Robertson admitted his side fell way-below their standards and believed the reaction of the Fratton faithful was justified.

‘We weren’t good enough to win the game,’ he told The News.

‘We’ve got to be a lot stronger in both boxes, we’ve conceded two set piece goals and from our standards it's not good enough.

Clark Robertson has said his side have let the Pompey fans down after their defeat to MK Dons.

‘It’s happened a few times this season and we’ve got to be better at defending them.

‘The fans have every right to voice their opinion during the game and after and we know we’ve got to start winning games quickly because we’ve got a lot of games coming over the Christmas period and they’re coming quick and fast.

‘We need a win from somewhere to kick us on again.

‘We played okay in spells, we started the game not too badly and conceded a goal after their first shot, which has happened in most games at home in recent months.

‘If I could put my finger on that then we wouldn’t be conceding the goals.

‘We’ve got to stick together and try and come through this tough period. We’ve not been good enough for a couple of months now so it’s on us to pick ourselves up and try and stay positive.

‘The standards that we’ve set and the quality we’ve got in the dressing room, we’ve let ourselves down and we’ve let the fans down. We’re the only ones who can turn this around now.

‘We know the atmosphere is not great and the fans have every right to voice their opinions. They pay their hard earned money and it’s up to us as players to stand strong and come together and find a win from somewhere.’

The defeat leaves Pompey 10th in League One and are without maximum points in any of their last six league outings.

Despite their bright start to the season, Robertson can’t pinpoint why the results haven’t gone their way.

‘It’s difficult to put my finger on it,’ he added.

‘We’ve not really changed the way we’re playing but we’ve been conceding the first goal in games.

‘It’s given teams something to hang on to and we’re struggling to get back in games. It’s up to us as players to sort this out now.’
