Doyle hails teamwork amid Pompey goal feast

The Blues ran out easy 4-0 winners at Colchester to consolidate their position in League Two’s top three.

Goals from Eoin Doyle, Kyle Bennett, Danny Rose and the captain himself handed Pompey a third successive away win as Paul Cook’s side proved too hot to handle for the U’s.

The visitors’ attacking verve will have left the travelling Fratton faithful mesmerised.

But Doyle was quick to point out the importance of teamwork in the triumph.

He said: ‘We’ve got such quality attacking players but the one thing that stood out for me was the work-rate.

‘Everyone was available to take the ball, and when we lost it, everyone chased back and won the second and third balls.

‘Three of our goals have come from our players being able to nick the ball from them which just shows how hard players have worked.

‘After last week against Crewe, it was just important to win against Crawley and Colchester – and it didn’t matter how we won them.

‘The fact we’ve won them both and put in the performances like we did is outstanding.

‘We’ve been under a lot of pressure but performances like that just show you what the players are capable of.’

Three of the Blues’ goals came during the second half.

Doyle admitted that was another pleasing aspect of the win.

He added: ‘We have not had many second halves like that.

‘When we’ve played as well as we have first half this year we’ve not been able to match that after the break.

‘We spoke about that as players in the dressing room.

‘We wanted to match it and put a big second half together.’
