The former Portsmouth player hit 115 for South Africa on the opening day of the fourth Test against England in Pretoria.

The Proteas closed on 329 for five after Cook, who played 13 times for the Southeren Electric Premier League side in 2001, had shared a 202-run stand with Hashim Amla (109) for the second wicket.

The 33-year-old was finally bowled by Chris Woakes after a 218-ball innings, which included 14 fours.
