Gosport MP visits hospital running same-day GP scheme

AN MP has welcomed the use of a Same Day Access Service for doctors after visiting the hub where the scheme is run.

Gosport MP Caroline Dinenage visited Gosport War Memorial to see how the pilot project works. It has been running for two months.

Run by staff from four participating GP practices, it offers patients registered to those surgeries access to telephone triage and face-to-face same-day appointments.

Ms Dinenage met Dr Donal Collins, GP lead for Better Local Care, Gethin Hughes, director of services at Southern Health NHS Foundation Trust and Kerry Cooper, Better Local Care general manager.

She said: ‘I have received correspondence regarding waiting times for GP appointments so it was great to see the difference the service is already starting to make for Gosport constituents.

‘It is encouraging to see GP practices working together to tackle the frustration for people having to wait for appointments, while improving the quality and experience of care.’
