Search under way after empty kayak recovered in Solent

A SEARCH operation is under way after an empty kayak was spotted drifting off the Isle of Wight this morning.

Two lifeboats are combing the stretch of water near Fishbourne, on the Isle of Wight, after the sea kayak was spotted by a passing vessel.

Lifeboat Ryde Rescue 1 has been searching between Ryde Pier and Wootton, after the kayak was hauled aboard the lifeboat.

Bembridge RNLI’s All Weather Lifeboat is searching the water between the three Solent forts off the Portsmouth coast.

HM Coastguard has put out an appeal for information.

Pictures of the orange kayak were shared by the Coastguard with the appeal.
