PILES of rubbish including canisters, glass bottles and a camping chair have been left strewn across Southsea Common and the beach after crowds flocked to enjoy the sun yesterday.
Residents have been left disgusted by the litter left as people flooded the area to soak up the sun on the hottest day of the year.
Council teams and volunteers have been left to clear up the mess.
Grant Bradshaw walks along the beach every morning.
‘We saw some volunteers clearing up this morning and they told us that Canoe Lake looked like it had been destroyed because there was so much rubbish and that it was going to take them hours to clean.
‘I think if it was left so people who want to come back and enjoy the beach the next day could see what they had left then they would be sitting in a rubbish dump and it might make them think.’
