A PENSIONER has been left with serious head injuries after being attacked while walking her dog.

Police are appealing for witnesses to the incident which happened at around 10.15pm last night (Wednesday, October 12), a woman in her 70s was walking her dog along Eastrop Lane, near Goat Lane, in Basingstoke when a man approached her from the Eastfield Avenue alleyway.

It is alleged that the man hit the woman over the head with an unknown object. The man then ran away from the scene.

The woman was taken to hospital for treatment to a serious head injury.

A 25-year-old man from Basingstoke has been arrested on suspicion of grievous bodily harm with intent.

A police spokesperson said: ‘We are keen to hear from any witnesses who saw this incident take place. Were you in the area at the time? Did you witness the incident?’
