NEW information has been unveiled about the disgraceful behaviour of fans at Portsmouth’s match against Bristol Rovers.

Pompey previously released a statement condemning the yobbish behaviour where a coin was launched at referee Gavin Ward.

He was brandishing yellow cards on the 73rd minute when he was struck by the projectile launched from block FAA of the Fratton End.

Plastic bottles were also hurled by Bristol Rovers fans from the Milton End at home supporters and players.

Pompey chief executive Andrew Cullen said the behaviour on August 20 was ‘unacceptable’, and sanctions would be severe.

Tensions were flaring on and off the pitch after Louis Thompson was stretchered off following a horror tackle from Gas midfielder Glenn Whelan – resulting in a broken leg.

As well as incidents inside Fratton Park, this may have spilled outside the ground.

Bristol Rovers claim glass bottles were chucked at their fans by Pompey supporters as they were leaving the stadium.

The club did not comment further due to ongoing Hampshire police investigations.

The News understands there was one report of a glass drinks container being thrown outside the stadium.

Officers found no evidence at the scene.
