This coming weekend, events across the country will celebrate the 90th birthday of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II.

The Queen herself will be in London.

Tomorrow, Friday June 10, there will be a service of thanksgiving at St Paul’s Cathedral, and on Saturday – the Queen’s official birthday – there will be the Trooping the Colour and a fly-past.

On Sunday the Mall outside Buckingham Palace will be turned into a huge street party, with a picnic and street performances for 10,000 guests.

In Lee-on-the-Solent we’re also having a celebration party on Sunday.

It’s happening at and around St Faith’s Church, in Victoria Square.

At 11am there will be a special celebration service, to celebrate and give thanks for the Queen and her long service to our nation, and then from midday until 4pm we’re holding a party on the St Faith’s grounds in Victoria Square.

This celebration party is a party for everyone in the Lee community, and you’re invited to come and have lunch – bring your own, or buy from our barbecue or sandwich stall – and to spend time celebrating together.

Or just pop along during the afternoon and enjoy being present at the celebrations.

At 2pm we’ll be cutting a special birthday cake, and singing Happy Birthday to Her Majesty.

All afternoon there will be entertainments, stalls, a beer stall, games and activities for children, and a chance to relax and celebrate. For more information, do visit the St Faith’s website.

As I write this, we’re busy making our final preparations for Sunday’s celebrations, which we hope will be a great community event for people in Lee-on-the-Solent. For those of you who live in Gosport, there is also a Birthday Street Party in Alverstoke Village Centre, midday–3pm, also on Sunday, June 12.
