SOUTHAMPTON Boat Show was opened by sailor Iain Percy and the children of the late Andrew ‘Bart’ Simpson.

Olympic sailor Iain, a member of Hayling Island Sailing Club, was joined by television presenter Matt Baker and children from The Andrew Simpson Sailing Foundation charity.

The boat show opened yesterday and is in its 46th year.

It is a festival of boating, and is hosting 150 boat debuts, thousands of brands, boats, products and supplies for leisure boaters.

It is one of the largest purpose-built marinas with more than 2km of pontoons in Europe.

Royal Navy vessels are also taking part, along with a tall ship and will run until Sunday, September 21.

Simpson, who was also a member of the Hayling club, died last year when the racing yacht he was training in capsized in San Francisco Bay, USA.
