New management scheme launched for businesses at Gosport
Solent Leadership Academy, supported by the Solent Local enterprise Partnership, aims to improve management skills in the Solent area through work-based training and master classes.
The new management and training provision was launched this month as part of a joint venture between Fareham College and Fareport Training Organisation.

Christine Bone, the owner of Kidz Inc nursery at Fareham, said: ‘The leadership programme sounds great, the more you learn as a manager, the better it will be for business.’
‘I have apprentices working at the nursery so it will be interesting to see what sort of apprenticeship they’ll be doing.’
Caroline Dinenage, the Tory MP for Gosport, was also at the event. She said: ‘The most valuable commodity in the modern world is an educated workforce.’

Claire Froggatt, the director of Solent Leadership Academy, said: ‘We’re open to supporting any local employer. It is all about getting higher level management skills in your workforce.’
Ms Froggatt said the local enterprise partnership had identified a gap in skills in the area. ‘The reality is there is a lower proportion of employed people with a level 4 or higher management qualification in the area. Hopefully this will change that,’ she said.
Nigel Duncan, the principal of Fareham College, said: ‘Poor management costs UK businesses more than £19.3bn a year so developing our managers is directly linked to improved organisational performance.
